According to data from NOAA's Storm Prediction Center, during October, there were 23 preliminary tornado reports. This is less than half the 1991-2010 average of 61 for the month. Most of the tornado activity occurred on October 6th in the Southwest to Central Plains and Midwest in association with a strong frontal passage in association with a low pressure system. There were no tornado-related fatalities reported during October. For January-October, there were 920 preliminary tornado reports, with 170 preliminary tornado reports awaiting confirmation for August-October.
