Monthly Temperature Records

Several surges of record-breaking heat and cold punctuated October's weather patterns. Many stations broke or tied all-time October records (the highest or lowest temperature on record for the month, respectively). As the map below indicates, record cold conditions affected much of the western half of the country, while record warmth blanketed the east.

On the interactive map below, the blue icons represent those stations that either tied or broke their October record low temperature. The red icons represent the stations that tied or broke their October record high temperature. Many stations broke or tied the previous record more than once; the latest such occurrence is listed. Click on a station to view the record temperature from October and the previous record.
