Snowfall Water Equivalent Departure from Average


In the western U.S., mountain snowpack is an important water resource that feed into rivers and streams as it melts. It is relied upon for water supplies in the spring and especially summer months when water demand typically peaks.

The table below contains April 1st* snow water equivalent (SWE) amounts for select Snow Course sites in the West. Each site has a 30-year SWE average which is used to compare current measurement to the long-term normal. For a visual presentation, click a site to get a timeseries graphic that shows the SWE anomalies from 1965 - 2015. Each column is sortable - click on the column header to view the minimum and maximum values of each category.
