Wildfires - August 2017


NCEI added Alaska climate divisions to its nClimDiv dataset on Friday, March 6, 2015, coincident with the release of the February 2015 monthly monitoring report. For more information on this data, please visit the Alaska Climate Divisions FAQ.

For August, 7,493 fires (6th least since 2000) burned 1,648,583 acres (9th least on record), which is 220.0 acres burned/fire (9th most on record). For June - August, -11,092 fires (least since 2000) burned 4,375,997 acres (9th most on record), which is -394.5 acres burned/fire (least on record). For January - August, 46,493 fires (9th least since 2000) burned 7,139,461 acres (5th most on record), which is 153.6 acres burned/fire (4th most on record).
