Wildfires - February 2017


NCEI added Alaska climate divisions to its nClimDiv dataset on Friday, March 6, 2015, coincident with the release of the February 2015 monthly monitoring report. For more information on this data, please visit the Alaska Climate Divisions FAQ.

For February, 3,567 fires (9th most since 2000) burned 87,208 acres (7th most on record), which is 24.4 acres burned/fire (5th most on record). For December - February, 11,365 fires (7th most since 2000) burned 305,322 acres (7th most on record), which is 26.9 acres burned/fire (9th least on record). For January - February, 6,026 fires (6th most since 2000) burned 142,169 acres (7th most on record), which is 23.6 acres burned/fire (5th most on record).
