| Episode Narrative | Drought conditions improved slightly, mainly during the first half of the month. Huntsville improved from D3 (extreme) to D2 (severe), while Muscle Shoals improved from D2 (severe) to D1 (moderate). The extreme northwestern corner of Alabama was taken out of all drought entirely by the end of April. Several locations received above normal rainfall for the month, mainly in southern middle Tennessee and along the Sand Mountain corridor from Cullman to Fort Payne. For these locations, it was their first above normal rainfall month since last summer, or even before. The last above normal rainfall month in Cullman had been in 2006. Areawide, rainfall totals generally ranged from three to six inches across the area, while normal is between four and five inches. The rain came to an abrupt end by mid-month and very little rain occurred during the second half of April. |
