A cold front pushed across the Rio Grande Valley and Deep South Texas on January 12th bringing chilly overnight temperatures on the 13th to the northern counties of the CWA. Readings fell well below freezing across much of the King Ranch (Brooks/Kenedy) where winds calmed. Colder pockets of the Rio Grande Plains and Brush Country (Zapata/Jim Hogg/Starr) also fell to or below freezing (32F) for several hours. |

Temperatures fell to 32 degrees between 6:15 AM and 8:15 AM at Brooks County Airport and across Brooks County before rising above freezing after 8:15 AM. A COOP site reported a low of 25 degrees in Falfurrias. Proxy observations from the Lower Rio Grande Valley NWR site at San Manuel (28) indicate up to five hours of freezing temperatures during the early morning hours. |
