| Episode Narrative | Even with ENSO neutral conditions rainfall remained below normal over most of South Central Texas and the 2011 Drought continued with little change. |
| Event Narrative | The drought continued over South Central Texas. Most of the area remains in exceptional drought conditions (Stage D4). There was some improvement in parts of the west where rainfall lowered Kinney County to severe drought (Stage D2) and Uvalde County to extreme drought (Stage D3). Isolated thunderstorms August 11th produced rainfall totals of as much as 1.5 to 3 inches in the two counties. Fire danger in South Central Texas remained moderate to very high and burn bans continued for all of the counties. The Texas A&M agricultural program report indicated for much of the area it had been about 70 days since the last economically significant rain in mid-June. Many stock tanks were dry. Most dryland and partially irrigated cotton failed. Ranchers continued to provide heavy supplemental feeding for livestock. At the end of the month the seven day stream flow average remained in the below or much below normal range for basins across South Central Texas and the Rio Grande Plains. Area lakes and reservoirs remain below normal pool elevations with Lake Travis nearly 47 feet below normal and Medina Lake around 40 feet below. The Edwards Aquifer was 20.7 feet below normal and 40.3 feet below the level from one year ago. The City of Kerrville enacted Stage 4 water restrictions, the San Antonio Water System (SAWS) and City of San Marcos remained in Stage 2, and the City of Austin in Stage 1. Many other communities across South Central Texas continued with some level of water restrictions. |
