Episode Narrative A strong low pressure moved out of the southern Plains into Iowa during the afternoon of the 30th into the 31st. There was very little in the way of cold air associated with the system and much of the precipitation it produced was in the form rain. As the upper low pushed into Iowa on the morning of 31st, the rain began to change over to snow. There was a brief period of freezing rain during the changeover, however the freezing rain was not a major factor. Snow fell on the northwest edge of the system through much of the day. A narrow band of 6 inch snowfall was reported from the Estherville area, east to Swea City, and southwest into Crawford County near Schleswig.
