An area of light rain mixed with snow moved across the Piedmont of North Carolina the night of the 5th into early on the 6th. Behind this precipitation skies cleared right around daybreak allowing for temperatures to briefly fall below freezing. This was enough to cause areas of black ice to form on area roadways. |

One high school aged student was killed and two were injured in a car accident around 730 AM EST on the 6th, when the car they were driving hit a patch of black ice, went down an embankment and flipped over. |
