A combination of freezing rain and freezing drizzle created very icy conditions across southeast Minnesota on the day before Thanksgiving. An accident near Rochester (Olmsted County) caused injuries to the driver of the vehicle. Roads became completely ice covered which resulted in numerous accidents and all truck traffic coming to a stop on Interstate 90 near Austin (Mower County). The icy conditions were the result of warm air aloft being drawn into the region ahead of an area of low pressure that tracked from the central Rocky Mountains northeast through North Dakota. Ice accumulations ranged from a few hundredths up to a tenth of an inch. |
