A slow moving warm front over central Iowa allowed thunderstorms to develop over northern Iowa during the evening of the 22nd into the early morning of the 23rd. These storms then moved northeast across northeast Iowa into southeast Minnesota producing heavy rains and a mud slide in Houston County. |

Thunderstorms with heavy rain caused mud slides to cover parts of Highway 26 in the vicinity of Reno. Also, a small section of County Road 249 near Freeburg was washed out. Rainfall totals included 3.71 inches at Reno, MN, 3.49 inches about 6 miles south of Caledonia, and 2.60 inches in La Crescent. |
