| Episode Narrative | Conditions slowly improved through the month of April, although D2 drought did not end until a prolonged wet period toward the end of the month. The precipitation helped with ground water levels, and area ponds, lakes, and rivers were back to normal levels by month's end. The year's wheat crop was almost a total loss in some areas, especially after a climatological late freeze that dropped temperatures in the upper teens and lower 20s for several hours. Prices of wheat fell to their lowest values of the season as a result of the dry conditions. The cotton crop in southwest Oklahoma fared better, but some overall quality may have been lost. Grass fires were less numerous due to the greening of vegetation, but several were still reported over a large area, and burn bans continued off and on until the last week of the month. Monetary damages estimates were not available. |
