According to data from NOAA's Storm Prediction Center, during September 2015, there were 24 preliminary tornado reports compared to the 1991-2010 average of 74. This was the lowest number of tornadoes reported during September since eight were confirmed in 2009. There were no large-scale tornado outbreaks during September, with tornado reports being isolated. A single EF-2 on Johns Island, near Charleston, South Carolina, touched down shortly after midnight on October 25th. The tornado damaged over 70 homes, destroyed two residences, and uprooted and snapped over a thousand trees. No injuries were fatalities were reported due to this tornado or any tornado during the month. For the January-September period there have been 945 preliminary tornado reports. There were 877 confirmed tornadoes for January-July, with 68 preliminary reports still pending for August and September. This is below the 1991-2010 average of 1,109 for the nine-month period. However, the year-to-date tornado count is the most since the active tornado year of 2011.
