Wildfires - August 2016


NCEI added Alaska climate divisions to its nClimDiv dataset on Friday, March 6, 2015, coincident with the release of the February 2015 monthly monitoring report. For more information on this data, please visit the Alaska Climate Divisions FAQ.

For August, 6,507 fires (2nd least since 2000) burned 1,116,726 acres (5th least on record), which is 171.6 acres burned/fire (5th least on record). For June–August, 19,932 fires (4th least since 2000) burned 2,996,912 acres (5th least on record), which is 150.4 acres burned/fire (8th least on record). For January - August, 40,359 fires (3rd least since 2000) burned 4,594,895 acres (6th least on record), which is 113.9 acres burned/fire (6th most on record).
