I am currently working on the Lateglacial / early Holocene section of a lacustrine core from northwestern Scotland. In the basal clays I have found a relatively large spike of a pollen grain / spore that I am unable to identify. There is also a smaller, but isolated spike at the very beginning of the Holocene; possibly suggesting an association with the deglacial, early warming at the end of the glacial and Younger Dryas periods.
I really would be grateful for any comments on the attached photos - the size is variable ca. 50µm.
