| Hemispheric maps of climatic variables from the NCAR/NCEP Reanalysis Project illustrate the large-scale climatic controls that operate during the course of the annual cycle. Beringia and vicinity are located at the fringe of several sharp climatic gradients. Most notable are the changes in net radiation from negative to positive from winter to summer; sharp north-south temperature gradients that exist most of the year, and changes in pressure over the North Pacific and Arctic Oceans. |
