Rules Based Vegetation
Rules-based vegetation classifications: We have created a vegetation classifications for Beringia using a traditional means of vegetation reconstruction that utilizes the relationship between modern pollen assemblages and modern vegetation. Knowledge of modern pollen abundances and their relationships to the local vegetation aided in the choice of percentage cutoffs for key taxon used to define each vegetation type. In cases on "no-analogue" fossil assemblages, we also considered the range of pollen values observed in the paleo-records.
