Methods of Paleoclimate Analysis

We refer to the interpretation of data from the geologic record to inferrences about past climate as "the scaling of proxy data". This jump from geologic data to climate data is not simple, and must be done in several steps. Each step involves more detailed analysis and interpretation. In the Atlas we demostrate the methods used to take each step. In addition, we present the results of each synthetic step because they shed light on past environments.

As our syntheses of geologic data become more complete, we will begin to compare them with output from Paleclimate modeling experiments. We should have some of these results by late 1999.
