Graphing and Data Output Using PaleoVu

There are two methods for launching PaleoVu GISP2 GRIP Icecore CD-ROM Version:

  1. Order the GISP2 GRIP ICECORE CD-ROM and launch or install PaleoVu from it.

  2. Download and install PaleoVu to your Macintosh or Windows (3.1.x/95/NT) hard drive from this Web document.

How to Download and Install PaleoVu GISP2 and GRIP Icecore CD-ROM Version for Macintosh:
  Minimum hardware/software requirements for Macintosh follow:
  • A Macintosh computer with 68030 processor or better.
  • At least 8 megabytes of memory.
  • CD-ROM Drive
  • System 7 operating system or later.
  • Finder version 6.1 or later.
  • If you install PaleoVu to your hard drive, 35MB of hard disk space is required.
  Installation Instructions for the PaleoVu GISP2 GRIP Icecore CD-ROM Version on the Macintosh follow:
 
  • PaleoVu GISP2 GRIP Icecore CD-ROM Version is available on-line
    ftp://ftp.ncdc.noaa.gov/paleo/softlib/paleovu/pvicecd-sea.hqx.The file pvicecd.sea.hqx is a self-extracting archive which contains the palvumac folder. The palvumac folder contains the PaleoVu application, support files, data, and the PaleoVu Users' Guide document in html format.
  • After pvicecd.sea.hqx is completely uncompressed, the palvumac folder will reside on your harddrive and installation is complete.
  • To launch PaleoVu, double-click on the PaleoVu icon in the palvumac folder.
  • Delete pvicecd.sea.hqx and pvicecd.sea if they have not been deleted for you (this step is optional).
   
How to Download and Install PaleoVu GISP2 and GRIP Icecore CD-ROM Version for Windows (3.1.x/95/NT):
  PaleoVu GISP2 GRIP Icecore CD-ROM Version is available on-line.
The file pvicecd.exe is a self-extracting archive which contains the palvuwin folder. The palvuwin folder contains the PaleoVu application, support files, data, and the PaleoVu Users' Guide document in HTML.

Minimum hardware/software requirements for Windows follow:
  • An 80486 CPU Configuration, with 8MB of RAM.
  • A VGA monitor.
  • 2x CD-ROM Drive
  • Windows 3.1, running in 386 enhanced mode with a compatible mouse.
  • If you install PaleoVu to your hard drive, 35MB of hard disk space is required.

PaleoVu GISP2 GRIP Icecore CD-ROM Version must be installed to a top-level directory (for example: C:\, D:\ or E:\). The following instructions assume you want to install PaleoVu to C:\ or your harddisk.

  • Download ftp://ftp.ncdc.noaa.gov/paleo/softlib/paleovu/pvicecd.exe to C:\.
  • At the C:\> prompt of a MS DOS command shell type:
    pvicecd.exe -d
    to extract the contents of the archive.
  • After pvicecd.exe is uncompressed, the palvuwin folder will reside in C:\ (C:\palvuwin) on your harddrive and installation is complete.
  • To launch PaleoVu, use the Run dialog (Windows 3.x/95/NT), the File Manager (Windows 3.x) , or Windows Explorer (Windows 95/NT). The PaleoVu executable is located in
    C:\palvuwin\paleovu.exe.
  • Delete C:\pvicecd.exe if it has not been deleted for you (this step is optional).

How to Get the Complete Version of PaleoVu:
  IMPORTANT NOTE: Some of the features of the complete version of PaleoVu are not available in the GISP2 and GRIP CD-ROM Version of PaleoVu.
