This data set contains calcium carbonate percentage data from 295 marine
sediment cores, plus 14C dates or age models as available.
The analyses were done for the CLIMAP project, and for numerous regional studies.
On average, the cores span 100,000 to 200,000 years, sampled at intervals averaging
3,000 to 10,000 years. Numerous cores span only the last deglaciation, while a
few cover intervals up to 3,000,000 years. The samples analyzed
consisted of either bulk sediment, or of fine-fraction sediment passed
through either a 63 or 74 micron sieve.
Available for download are the LDGO Calcium Carbonate Database
Data Description and References, a
Methods file, and the
Original Data Files. Filenames ending in ".tot" are bulk sediment carbonate percentages,
and the ".fin" files contain carbonate percentage data on the fine fraction of the sediment
(passed through either a 63 or 74 micron sieve).
The LDGO Calcium Carbonate Database is also available in standard format
output from the NOAA Paleoclimatology database.
