National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration The Climate of 1998 US Year-to-Date (January - March)
|
|
January and February 1998 were strikingly warm and wet. Although March was moderate, the January through March period was still extremely unusual with 22 states from North Dakota to Kentucky to Maine experiencing record or near-record warmth for the 104 years of record available for comparison. Likewise, 17 states, comprising the Southeastern Coastal Region, plus Oklahoma, Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa, Montana, Wyoming, California, and Nevada were at near record levels for precipitation. (See maps for ranks.)
