INDICATOR DEFINITION
Observing Platforms Number of stations available including digital versus non-digital; temp only; precip only ; both
Period of Record Number of stations open for 100+, 50+, 25+, 10+ years beginning in 1887 with no significant breaks of either 18 consecutive or 24 total months. Period of record is determined from the station history metadata records and may not directly correspond with the data record.
Receipt Timeliness Percent of stations whose data was received 01-10 days, 11-20 days, 21-30 days, 31-60 days, and greater than 60 days after month's end
Data Completeness Percent of digital data present for TMAX, TMIN, TOBS, PRCP, SNOW, SNWD
Data Quality Percent of unflagged data for TMAX, TMIN, TOBS, PRCP, SNOW, SNWD. Does not count missing as an error.
Data Validity Percent of unflagged and non-missing data for TMAX, TMIN, TOBS, PRCP, SNOW, SNWD. Does count missing as not valid.
Instrumentation Changes Number of temperature and preciptation instrument changes.
Station Moves Number of station moves not requiring an ID change. (note: updated GPS-based locations were added to the station history in the early 2000s as a part of the CSSA system implementation.)
Ob Practice Changes Number of observation practice changes including obs time for temperature and precipitation and observer changes.
Maintaining Homogeneity Under Development: Percent of stations with minimal homgeneity issues; including Maximum Likelihood Ratio and Two Phase Regression testing

Return to the top symbol REPORT DESCRIPTIONS

Monthly Data Quality Assurance Report by NWS Region or State
Quality assurance reports are generated by NWS region or state and are sorted by Weather Forecast Office (WFO). Values flagged for error defaulted to 8% or more.

Monthly Data Completeness Report by NWS Region or State
Data completeness reports are generated by NWS region or state and are sorted by Weather Forecast Office (WFO). Values flagged for error defaulted to 80% or less.

Monthly Data Validity Report by NWS Region or State
Data validity reports are generated by NWS region or state and are sorted by Weather Forecast Office (WFO). Values flagged for error defaulted to 8% or more for quality and 80% or less for completeness.

Monthly Station Snapshot
Monthly station snapshots provide detailed completeness, quality, and validity information for a given station/yearmonth.

Cooperative Station Changepoint Detection List
The station changepoint detection list is generated from the non-climatic changepoint detection routines. Stations appearing on the watchlist have detected changepoints for Max Temp, Min Temp, or both. Changepoint dates that do not lie within a 6-month metadata change date window, are presented in bold text.

Cooperative Station Watchlist
The station watchlist is generated from the non-climatic changepoint detection routines and includes only those stations with a changepoint in the past 12 months that does not have a corresponding 6-month window metadata change.

Cooperative Station Watch Report
The station watch report includes both information from the non-climatic changepoint detection routines and metadata changes.
