A NOAA cost/benefit analysis report concluded that for each Federal dollar spent on the national Search and Rescue Satellite Aided Tracking (SARSAT) program the Nation derived more than 11 dollars in benefit . In 2004, the total benefit of this program exceeded $259 million (NESDIS, 2006).
