ADCP MOORING DATAK. Kutsuwada (Tokai U., Japan)Announced availability: 1 October 1994 Data AccessJapanese Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) mooring velocity data are available via anonymous FTP from the Japanese TOGA COARE FTP site at the University of Tokyo (ftp://ftp.ccsr/u-tokyo.ac.jp) in subdirectory pub/TOGA/ADCP, filename adcp_tokai.tar. Data are also available from the COARE Moored Data Archive at NOAA/PMEL's Tropical Atmosphere-Ocean Array (TAO) Project Office, (http://www.pmel.noaa.gov/coare/coare-data.html), along with other COARE mooring data.The original data have also been archived at NOAA's National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC) in Silver Spring, Maryland (http://www.nodc.noaa.gov), the repository for COARE oceanographic data, and at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, Colorado (http://dss.ucar.edu/pub/toga_coare/), the site of the TOGA COARE deep archive.
BackgroundFour ADCP moorings (0, 147E; 0, 154E; 2N, 156E; and 2S, 156E) were operated by Japan's Tokai University during TOGA COARE. The moorings were equipped with 150 kHz ADCPs (at 300 m, sampling every 15 seconds, 20-minute averages).
Data File InformationNumber of data directories: 2 (u_vel_Z, v_vel_Z)Number of data files: 6 per directory uday147e 1/1/92 - 2/23/93; 0 147E; 50m - 230m (10m intervals) uday154e 3/1/92 - 2/15/93; 0 154E; 20m - 240m (10m intervals) uh00147e 11/7/92 - 2/24/93; 0 147E; 30m - 230m (10m intervals) uh00154e 11/6/92 - 2/16/93; 0 154E; 20m - 240m (10m intervals) uh2n156e 11/6/92 - 2/15/93; 2N 156E; 20m - 160m (10m intervals) uh2s156e 11/6/92 - 2/17/93; 2S 156E; 30m - 210m (10m intervals)Each filename is based on current component (u or v), time interval (daily->day, hourly->h), longitude (daily data) and longitude and latitude (hourly data). For example "uday147e" means a file of daily data of the zonal current at 0, 147E; "vh2s156e" means a file of hourly data of the meridional current at 2S, 156E.
In the first line of each file, year/month/day(/time) for the first and the last records and record length are indicated. In the second line, current depths are indicated.
