This month was drier than normal, statewide, ranking as the 15th driest September in the 108-year record. However, heavy rainfall earlier this year has resulted in long-term wet conditions with the hydrologic year (October-September) ranking as 25th wettest.
As of mid-September, a state drought alert or advisory had been issued for the counties in the western third of Missouri (Dr. Adnan Akyuz, Missouri State Climate Office).
A discussion of the weather that occurred across the state during the month of September is available from the Missouri State Climate Office website (http://www.mcc.missouri.edu/sep02.htm).
