This month was drier than normal, statewide, ranking as the 43rd driest September in the 108-year record. The persistent dryness of the last nine months has resulted in the eleventh driest February-September, twelfth driest January-February, and 24th driest hydrologic year (October-September) on record.

According to the Idaho office of the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (Idaho Water Supply Specialist Ron Abramovich), below-average snowpack and streamflow during this hydrologic year contributed to below-average reservoir storage in the Boise River Basin in southwest Idaho. Aggregated reservoir levels were just under 60% of average as of September 2002.
