June marked the seventh consecutive month with below-normal precipitation, statewide, for New Mexico. The persistent dryness this year gave the state the third driest July-June on record. According to the USDA, 83% of New Mexico's pasture and range land was rated in the poor to very poor category by early July. Based on July 2 USGS observations as summarized by the National Weather Service, 14% of 65 streamflow sites in the state set new all-time record lows for streamflow.
