June marked the fourth consecutive month of near to wetter than normal conditions for New Jersey. However, the dryness which started last summer and which lasted through February has resulted in cumulative long-term deficits which are reflected in the state still being in the moderate drought category as measured by the Palmer Hydrological Drought Index. The latest 12-month period ranks as the third driest July-June on record, surpassed only by the Northeast drought of the 1960s.
