National Climatic Data Center, Asheville, NC June 10, 1998 ![]() This preliminary map shows thematically which areas of the world were warmer than average and which were cooler during the period January-May of 1998. The blue dots show cool anomalies, and the red show warm anomalies. The size of the dot is proportional to the magnitude of the anomaly. The land data are from the NOAA NCDC Global Historical Climatology Network. Over the Oceans, the NOAA NCEP Reynolds blended satellite-ship-buoy analyses were used.
