NEW Access Tool for 1981–2010 Climate Normals Data
In March 2013, NCDC released a new tool that provides easy access to 1981–2010 Climate Normals data and information. By selecting a station with this new tool, users can view fundamental Normals values such as temperature and precipitation within the same window. The tool also links to the relevant Climate Data Online (CDO) quick reports for an intermediate level of information as well as to the CDO station page, which provides all of the data and information available from NCDC on that station. An additional feature is the ability to produce visualizations, which demonstrate trends and cycles within the data. The new tool does not replace the CDO integrated map application, which is still available for experienced users to access the Climate Normals data and information.
The 1981–2010 U.S. Climate Normals are the latest once-per-decade release of NCDC’s Climate Normals, which are three-decade averages of climatological variables. This 1981–2010 Normals dataset includes daily and monthly Normals of temperature, precipitation, snowfall, heating and cooling degree days, frost/freeze dates, and growing degree days calculated from observations at approximately 9,800 stations operated by NOAA’s National Weather Service and the U.S. Climate Reference Network.
