These images have been produced to show the type of climatic and ecotonal environments represented by operational stations. The USCRN program adheres as closely as possible to Climate Principles endorsed by the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) and the Global Climate Observing System (GCOS). The only stations not shown are our experimental or test sites. These sites are designed for testing equipment and therefore require sustained human access for experiments, configuration changes and other activities. Operational stations, on the other hand, have "Climate Representativity" as their primary goal and are located in areas that are relatively undisturbed by human activities.
